Who can be my witness?
When signing your Deed you will need to do so in the presence of an independent witness. The witness can be any two persons over the age of 18 as long as they are not related to you or living at your address i.e. a lodger.
Therefore, people typically choose friends, colleagues or neighbours to be their witness.
Please note, the purpose of the witness is to attest your signature, it does not matter how long they have known you for. However, they must be present when you sign the Deed.
In summary the witness should be:
- Over 18
- Not related
- Not living at the same address
They do not need to be a professional i.e. Doctor, Solicitor or Teacher etc.
